Grand Marshal - 2003
Judge Dan Kelly

The Irish-American Club of St. Clair County is proud to announce the selection of the Honorable Daniel J. Kelly as its Grand Marshal for 2003. As Grand Marshal, Judge Kelly will preside over CelticFest 2003, The Grand Marshal's Bash on March 14th, and The St. Patrick's Parade, on March 15th.

Dan, a life-long Port Huron resident, was selected for his public and community service and for his consistent and continuous efforts to foster a positive image of Irish-Americans. He has served as a judge for the past 20 years. He was first elected to the 72nd District Court in 1982 and was appointed by Governor Engler to the 31st Circuit Court bench in 1994.

He was a member of Port Huron Catholic High School's first graduating class in 1965 and Port Huron Junior College's last class in 1967. He received both his bachelor of arts and juris doctor degrees from Wayne State University. He was drafted into the Army after completing his first year of law school, and was assigned to a Judge Advocate court-martial facility in Heidelberg, Germany. Prior to being elected judge he had completed a one-year internship with the St. Clair County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and practiced law for eight years with the late Delmer Cleland.

Dan a past director of the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers and is currently a member of the SC4 Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is also the legal affairs officer of the St. Clair County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Association.

Dan and his family are 4th generation Irish-Americans. The Kelly's were natives of County Kerry, Ireland. His great-grandfather, James Kelly immigrated to St. Clair County and settled in Kimball Township in the 1850s. Dan has visited Ireland twice.

Dan and his wife Mary have two children, Deirdre, age 12, and Kirsten Colleen, age 8. His father died in 1972, but his mother Elaine is alive and well, living in Marysville. His brother, David Kelly, and sister, Mary Jo Schmude, both live in Traverse City.

Fri. March 16th - Grand Marshal Parade Party. Get ready to enjoy the Parade and come out to honor the 2012 St. Patrick's Parade Grand Marshal. 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. Port Huron Yacht Club, 212 Quay Street, Port Huron. $12.50 per person, includes snacks. Music by Celtic Cross. Cash Bar.
